How to get there?
If youre driving, it can take from 4 to 5 hours to get there. You will pass through the Cerro de la Muerte, where you can clearly appreciate the high-altitude forest and the moor forest.

From San Jose, take the South Pan-American Highway on the route #2 in direction to Cartago. From here continue to San Isidro del General following the signs. When you get to San Isidro, take the exit for Dominical and soon you will see the ocean before your eyes.

Dominical is one of the favorite destinations of the most experienced surfers. This beautiful beach is located in the Central Pacific, 40 km south from Jaco, in the province of Puntarenas.

This zone has very strong waves, so swimming here is not recommended, but this doesnt limit the possibility of enjoying other activities like snorkeling, or just watching these waters as they are swirled by the wind of the ocean. This is a pilgrimage center for local and international surfers, who know that Dominical is an adventure paradise.

The beach is the main attraction of the region, which extends for more than 4 km and is surrounded by exuberant vegetation typical of the Pacific coast, where the ocean breeze softly pushes the palm trees.

Next to the beach of Punta Dominical you will find the small town of the same name, which is a small village that was founded by fishermen and some merchants, farmers and tour operators, along with all those who surrendered before its charming scenery and its friendly residents.

The center of the town has some small stores, houses and other businesses that are aligned along the only way that takes you to the beach. At the end of Dominical, close to the cliff known as Roca Verde, you can find some smaller beaches that are a fantastic destination, which give a perfect idea of the incredible natural sceneries that you will find in this place.

This picturesque town is popular due to its strong waves that remain constant throughout the year and also because of the beautiful panoramas of its surroundings.

Dominical is very close to the Ballena National Marine Park, a spectacular place, and the Manuel Antonio National Park. A lot of surfers have moved to Dominical and have opened their own bed & breakfasts and camps in front of the beach, where they welcome tourists who enjoy the beauty and the strength of this coast.

Accommodations and gastronomy
The amazing sceneries of the zone and the beach offer different activities besides surfing, giving more options to the tourists and therefore more choices of places to stay.

In Dominical you can find accommodations for everyone, and that also adjust to your budget. The options go from cabins and hostels to small beach hotels and more luxurious ones, offering more services and facilities. Most of these hotels have less than 30 rooms.

This is not a massive tourism area, which makes it perfect for relaxing and enjoying nature. In the town of Dominical and next to the beach you can find some small restaurants that serve typical Costa Rican meals. Because this area is a fishermen community, seafood is the main ingredient in most of the dishes that are served in the restaurants of this region.

Shellfish, octopuses, fish, crabs, shrimp and lobsters are some of the delicious seafood the visitors can taste in this small paradise of the Pacific coast, especially if theyre seafood lovers.

This beautiful zone also offers many activities besides surfing. You can visit the Ballena National Marine Park, which offers a unique possibility of understanding the ecosystem of the region. It is home to a large number of marine mammals like dolphins and whales, which come here during breeding season. There are trails where you can observe the flora and the fauna of the zone, horseback-riding tours to the Nayuca waterfalls, camps in the jungle, kayaking and diving.

From Dominical you can also visit other beautiful beaches like Playa Dominicalito, Playa Roca Verde or Playa Hermosa, which is an intact reserve where the forest meets the beach. This is a great option for surfing when there are no good waves in Dominicalito. Playa Uvita is very beautiful and popular among visitors, where you can find some services like restaurants and bars. Playa La Colonia is ideal for camping and will definitely help you leave the city behind. Playa Arco is hiding next to Playa Ballena,

where you should walk through a short trail since theres no access road.

All of these beaches close to Dominical are small tropical paradises plenty of flora and fauna, where the sunsets are breathtaking and where you can walk for long distances without seeing anyone else.
