How to get there?
If youre driving to Jaco theres a very simple route: take the North Pan-American Highway on the route #1 and when you get to Manolos take the exit for Orotina. Continue on this route in direction to Atenas and go through the Monte del Aguacate. This route is in very good conditions but you must drive carefully using the motors compression and avoid braking too much. When you get to Orotina, take the exit for the Costanera Sur (route #34, road that goes along the coastline), and drive for 40 km.

The other route is through the new highway that goes to Caldera, starting from La Sabana, in San Jose, and connecting to the route #34 in direction to Orotina. It takes less time through this route and you wont go over steep sections. There are also daily buses that go directly to Jaco, which usually take one more hour than driving. However, they are very cheap and an excellent option during low season, when there arent many passengers.

Playa Jaco is one of the most important and popular tourist destinations of the Pacific coast of Costa Rica. Local and international tourists come to this beautiful beach to practice water sports and to appreciate the wonderful natural sceneries it offers. Due to its closeness to San Jose, you can visit Jaco in a one-day trip.

Jaco is located less than two hours away from the capital city, and offers a great variety of attractions in adventure tourism and ecotourism. The road that goes to this beach is in very good conditions so its very easy to access with any type of vehicle. This is one of the favorite sites for surfers worldwide, making this beach a privileged spot among the international community of surf lovers. The beach is very beautiful and is surrounded by zones plenty of exuberant tropical vegetation. It is a peaceful place with an extension of almost 3 km, gray sands and crystal-clear waters, with moderate and strong waves you must watch out for.

The town of Jaco, in front of the beach, has transformed into an impressive emporium of tourist and commercial developments that have radically changed the environment of the beach. This zone has the largest offer of places to stay in Costa Rica, and along with these hotels, the town has many different facilities, such as several businesses, public and private services, stores, bank branch offices, Internet Cafes, condos, camping centers, supermarkets, bars, restaurants and discotheques. All these places have turned Jaco into the largest shopping mall of the Pacific coast of Costa Rica.

Accommodations and gastronomy
You have many different options of places to stay, such as cabins, apartments, hotels and condos. In the center of the town you can easily find traditional cabins, which are cheaper and offer several amenities that can be complemented with other services the town offers, like restaurants and bars, ensuring a pleasant stay. Many of these cabins dont have swimming pools but are located in front of the beach; this because they are
older than the large luxurious hotels.

There are many medium-sized hotels that have less than 40 rooms, with restaurants, swimming pools, beachfronts, bars and A/C in the rooms. This is the most popular type of hotel in Jaco, and its better if you can make reservations prior to arrival during high season to avoid any trouble.

Hotel chains are also found here, offering the largest hotels with more rooms and plenty of activities in their facilities, where luxury and great customer service join together in front of beautiful gardens. These hotels are the most expensive but in certain seasons offer really good discounts in order to attract more visitors. Some are located outside of town, towards Playa Herradura or Playa Hermosa.

In Jaco there are many places where you can eat, like coffee shops and small restaurants, where you can have typical Costa Rican dishes for little money. There are also fast food chain restaurants and other ones that have different cuisines, such as Italian restaurants that offer fresh pizza, stake houses, and seafood, vegetarian, French, German, Brazilian, Mexican and American style restaurants. All these different options turn Jaco into a gastronomic Tower of Babel, where everyones taste can be satisfied.

Many restaurants are prepared for receiving large groups of people, while other ones offer more intimate spaces ideal for romantic dinners or peaceful lunches in front of the ocean. The hotels here have different restaurants, with specialized chefs that take care of every detail to guarantee a perfect evening.

The nightlife here is very exciting, where you have many entertainment options in different places. Jaco has gained the reputation of the party beach of Costa Rica due to its attractive and intense nightlife where you will find bars, discotheques, restaurants and many other activities that take place at the beach. Most of these activities are held in a relaxed and casual environment where visitors party along with local people of Jaco.

Surfing is the most attractive activity in the beach of Jaco and many of the town activities are related to this sport. Here you will find several surf schools, and many surf tournaments take place throughout the year in this beach. Many visitors come to Jaco and Playa Hermosa to enjoy the thrills of this water sport.

This zone also offers a lot more than surfing, with soft sands where you can lay under the sun, go horseback riding in the beach or in the mountain, and appreciate the wonderful vegetation. Many local tour operators are found in the town of Jaco, which offer different activities like kayaking, sportfishing tours, ATV tours, sailboat tours, canopy tours, surfing, boogie boarding, biking, wakeboarding, snorkeling, or going on the aerial tram of the zone.
