31 from Octuber from 2012
The park is one of the newest in Costa Rica, and has an impressive water resource very important for the Northern Zone of the country

By: Melissa Solis C.

The Juan Castro Blanco National Park is an excellent place for birdwatching (with 107 species) like the impressive and famous quetzal. Some of the attractions tourists can visit are waterfalls, boilers and volcanoes.

The park is one of the newest in Costa Rica, and has an impressive water resource very important for the Northern Zone of the country, for human consumption and hydropower generation.

Many rivers are born here, tributaries of the San Carlos River, which is the most important in the Northern Zone and the fourth most important river of Costa Rica. This destination protects areas of primary and recovering forests.

This protected area has three life zones: pre-montane pluvial forest, very humid pre-montane forest and low montane pluvial forest.

It has many typical species of the highland forest, such as: 30 mammal species like bats, coyotes, white-faced monkeys, anteaters, armadillos and pacas. There are about 32 types of reptiles, like the boa, and 44 kinds of amphibians (15% of the total in the country).

Come to the Juan Castro Blanco National Park for your adventure in Costa Rica! Remember this is a country for all adventure lovers!
