Corcovado National Park, a unique center for environmental education
18 from Octuber from 2012
The Corcovado National Park offers endless fun in middle of nature for those adventurous tourists who would like to spend their vacations in Costa Rica
By: Melissa Solis C.

The Corcovado National Park is located in the southwest sector of Costa Rica, in the Osa Peninsula, and is considered a unique place for research and environmental education.

National Geographic named it the most biologically intense place on Earth, since it shelters 2.5% of the entire biodiversity of the planet in only 45.000, like no other place on Earth.

The park protects more than 140 species of mammals, 400 types of birds (of which 20 are endemic), 116 kinds of reptiles and amphibians, 40 fish species and at least 500 different trees. Its home to the squirrel monkey and the harpy eagle.

Tourists can observe poison dart frogs, wild felids, crocodiles, pumas and jaguars, as well as four species of sea turtles.

This park has miles of deserted beaches and natural waterfalls, awakening the curiosity of visitors from all over the world.

Corcovado is a place for adventure lovers, with many tours you can take with your family or friends. Choose a tour through the mangrove swamps, a fishing tour, go diving, enjoy an encounter with dolphins and whales, relax in the Osa Trail, visit the waterfalls, go horseback riding or take a kayaking tour.

If youre looking for vacations immersed in nature, choose this natural paradise, which offers several hotels for your best comfort and enjoyment.

How to get to the park?

You can get to the Corcovado National Park via Puerto Jimenez or Drake Bay. These two villages are the main doorways to the park. To get to Puerto Jimenez you can take a direct flight from San Jose, and to arrive to Drake Bay you can fly to Sierpe and from there take a boat trip to this small town.
