Costa Rica is the fifth most ecological country in the world
08 from March from 2012
One of the aspects that contributed with the choice was that the country produces very low levels of carbon dioxide, which affects in global warming

By: Melissa Solis C.

For the third time, Costa Rica is part of the list of the most ecological countries in the world, reaching the 5th place in this edition.

132 countries make up the list of the Environmental Representation Index 2012, published by the universities of Yale and Columbia in the last weeks of February.

In 2006, Costa Rica had the 15th position, which means the country has shown an important progress during the past years, specifically in the control of the environment.

Some of the strengths of the country are the conservation of the fourth part of the territory, the biodiversity, the low climate impact and the availability of drinking water to 97% of the population, being the highest level in Latin America.

One of the aspects that contributed with the choice was that Costa Rica produces very low levels of carbon dioxide, which affects in global warming.

This has benefited the country in several ways, like the attraction of more tourists.

No other country in Latin America reached such positive results, since the best one after Costa Rica is Colombia with the 27th position.
